From rubble to classrooms

Restoring Um Omarah.

Um Omarah, in Kawo, Kaduna, began as a run-down compound and a lot of hope. Today boys and girls receive Islamic education alongside formal learning there. Follow the transformation in three steps, filmed by our team on site.
  1. Before

    A neglected compound

When we arrived on Beaver Crescent, the compound was full of rubble, the walls were broken and the rooms had stood empty for a long time.

  2. During

    Rebuilding, block by block

We cleared the site, rebuilt the boundary walls and repaired every room so the compound would be safe and secure for children.

  3. After

    A school ready for children

Repaired rooms, new doors, a clean compound and classrooms ready for desks, chairs and the children who would fill them.

Learning spaces

Classrooms furnished and full of colour.

With the building restored, supporters helped us furnish it. Desks, chairs, tables and teaching boards turned bare rooms into places where children want to be.

Qur'anic learning

Twenty Qur'an sets placed in learners' hands

Twenty boxed sets of the Qur'an were distributed to learners and teachers in our Islamic learning programme, so that no child has to wait to share a copy before they can recite.

Children holding gift packs

Humanitarian relief

Gift packs to celebrate a new beginning

As lessons began, the children at the school each received a gift pack and a drink, a simple way of telling every child that they are seen, valued and part of something good.

Learning in action

The rooms are full now.

The real measure of our work is children learning. These clips show lessons and learning circles at Um Omarah.
Children gather on bright chairs as a teacher takes them through an Arabic lesson at the board.
Boys and girls sit on mats in the compound for an afternoon circle of recitation and learning.
Arabic letter charts, a teaching board and a mural turn plain walls into a place to learn.

Where your money goes

Our promise to every donor.

We do not publish numbers we cannot stand behind. Instead, we make four commitments about how every gift is handled.
  • Spent on purpose

Gifts directed to a programme are spent on that programme. Zakat is kept separate and given only to those eligible to receive it.

  • Recorded carefully

Every donation and every expense is recorded, and receipts are kept for purchases made on behalf of the children and families we serve.

  • Shown openly

We share photos, videos and updates from our work so supporters can see the results of their generosity for themselves.

  • Open to questions

If you want to know how your gift was used, ask us. We will answer by email or phone, and you are welcome to visit our projects.

Help us write the next chapter.

Every new project brings more learners, more teachers and more families supported. Your gift decides how far we can go.
